Two years ago I had an idea that popped into my head. I am constantly thinking about mock scrapes and ways to improve my techniques. One evening I was cleaning up stuff in my basement when I decided to make a concoction. I had a few half used bottles of Smokey's Deer Lure products and I mix them all together. I called the new mixture, Head-Scratcher, because I wasn't sure if it would work or not.
I waited patiently before I decided to put Head-Scratcher to the test. During the last week of July I went to several of my mock scrapes and put Head-Scratcher on licking branches, vines, and my Buckstik products. I made sure that my SpyPoint cameras were ready and I crossed my fingers for positive results. The results were immediate and wonderful.
Throughout the summer and into the fall, numerous bucks kept visiting and interacting with my mock scrapes. I was thoroughly impressed by the number of bucks appearing and communicating. Head-Scratcher appeared to be a great success, and with archery season approaching, I was confident I would fill my tag before the rut.
Head-Scratcher was incredibly successful, allowing me to harvest a buck before the rut. I kept using Head-Scratcher on my mock scrapes for the remainder of the hunting season, and the bucks continued to come by to investigate the mysterious buck.

In the spring of 2024, I decided to create Head-Scratcher to sell on my website. Over the summer, I contacted friends who enjoy making mock scrapes to see if they wanted to test my gland lure. The bottles quickly sold out, and trail camera photos were coming in from across the United States. My friends and customers were delighted with the results. I also made a few new scrapes and set up some new cameras. The bucks were actively using the Head-Scratcher at the new scrapes.
Head-Scratcher was working great and allowing me to inventory bucks on multiple properties. In November, I was able to set up between two of my mock scrapes and harvest a beautiful 8-point that I named Krazy 8! Krazy 8 worked the scrapes often, and I knew that he would be coming through at some time in the morning. Luck was on my side, and I was able to put an arrow in him at 38 yards.
The 2025 season is well underway, and the bucks are drawn to the Head-Scratcher gland lure. I have plenty of bottles available for the season, and I'm sure you'll have success with Head-Scratcher. I'm also developing an interdigital gland mix that I aim to have ready by the end of August. You can find Head-Scratcher on this website under the Shop page.
